What are the benefits of a second opinion? When is it needed?
In most cases there is more than one acceptable method of dental treatment indicated for a dental condition or problem or to achieve a certain result. In other words, there are different dental treatment options to consider in most cases. Those options with their benefits, advantages and disadvantages or risks should be explained before treatment. Of those available options, a recommended option with the reason or reasons can be given to a person if asked for by the person. If a person has not been given those options or the person does not feel comfortable with those options or recommendation or the reason for the recommendation, then that person should seek a second opinion. In many cases, the general dentist will refer the person to a specialist dentist for that second opinion and for treatment.
