What are the benefits of a K-5/6-8 school?
The structure of the K-5/6-8 school will decrease the number of transitions for each student. Students may plateau or lose ground in the first year of a transition between school levels. Research states that students in smaller schools tend to achieve at higher levels than students in large, mega schools. Smaller schools and fewer transitions support a decrease in dropout rates. Students and parents will have the opportunity to build a stronger school culture and be involved in the school over longer periods of time. Consistency in the education program, collaboration and articulation between teachers, and longer personal connections to school staff for students are positive aspects of the K-5/6-8 configuration. In addition, students are able to remain at neighborhood schools.
