What are the benefits conferred on a pregnant woman?
The law confers several benefits on the pregnant woman. These are as follows: • No pregnant woman can be forced by her employer to do any work which is of an arduous nature or, which involves long hours of standing, or which is likely to interfere with her pregnancy or the normal development of the foetus, or is likely to cause her miscarriage or, otherwise adversely affect her health; for a period of one month and six weeks before the date of her expected delivery. • Every pregnant woman is entitled to wages, at the average daily rate, during the period of her maternity leave. • The amount of maternity benefits, payable to a pregnant woman before her delivery, must be paid to her in advance on production of proof of her pregnancy. Similarly, the amount, payable to her after the delivery, must be paid to her within 48 hours of production of proof of her delivery. • Every pregnant woman is entitled to a medical bonus of Rs. 250/- in addition to the maternity benefit. • No woman is allow
