The benefits are the savings you achieve and the less confusion in communicating direct to the buyer than through an estate agent. I sold my place in the UK the seller had been gazumped 3 times and was £1300 down in survey fees! She could not believe how easy the process was – we agreed and then she got a conveyancing solicitor and we did the same. Any slow down in the process we called the solicitors up ourselves.
