What are the behaviors / characteristics of the Milky Way Galaxy?
Well… 1. It is filled with 500 billion to 1 trillion stars. 2. It is a spiral galaxy with distinct “arms” rotating around a supermassive black hole in the center. 3. It is primarily filled with interstellar gas and dust. 4. It is a member of the Local Cluster and is on a collision course with the Andromeda Galaxy. 5. It is the second-largest galaxy in the Local Cluster, after Andromeda. 6. A large portion of its mass is contained in “dark matter,” which is not directly visible but can be observed through its effects on visible matter (e.g. the roughly uniform speed of stellar orbits).
