What are the beans made of?
Bean bag beans are made from Polystyrene, also known as Styrofoam. There are two types of Polystyrene beans used for bean bags: virgin and recycled. Virgin beans are specifically made for bean bag chairs and are brand new. Recycled beans are made by grinding up the hard molded Styrofoam typically used as packing materials for things like TV sets and computers. Since this packing material is only used one time and would otherwise be thrown into a landfill, it is the preferred filling for most of the bean bag manufacturers.
