What are the basic medical steps to take care for a young pup?(one month old)?
A four week old pup needs to be either with its dam. If it must be fostered because the dam has died, doing so is a very involved process because of its tender age. Best place to start is a trip to the vet to assess its chance of survival and overall health. Your vet will give you advice on care at this age as well, but here are the basics. A 4 week old is able to stablize its body temperature as long as it is indoors and not subject to extreme hot or cold. It still needs clean bedding. It may or may not have started eating semi solid food. If it has, you are lucky. If not, you have a couple weeks of touch and go. If it has, you can leave a dish of puppy kibble and fresh water available near its bed at all times. Some at this age will actually eat as needed, but most will not.
