What are the basic equipments and modalities used in a Home Care setting for Physical Therapy?
I have been a PT in home health for about 15 years and the equipment expenses are very affordable. Most of the equipment you take around should be able to fit comfortably in the trunk of your car and then plan on keeping some of the other slightly bigger equipment at home. This is helpful for when a patient needs a trial on something. As opposed to buying everything up front, I recommend that you start with the necessary equipment (such as BP cuff, stethoscope) and then see what from the following list you might need. I have very rarely found that I need to buy new equipment. Also many of the agencies will have equipment that you can borrow. What I recommend and the costs: Stethoscope and BP cuff in a kit: as low as $30 on Amazon Cuff Weights: Range from $13 to $21 on Amazon Theraband: Various Packs of different tensions $5-15 Straight cane: $5 at thriftstores Rolling Walker: $5-10 at thriftstore or yard sale Forearm Crutches $5-10 Thriftstores (Great for knee/hip replacements) Axillar
