What are the basic beliefs of a Traditional and/or Folk Witch?
Witchcraft consists of many different traditions that may differ to a great extent one from another, but they all share the same basic belief: all nature is sacred and there is equality in everything. Unlike Wiccans, who mostly believe that deity is “higher” than themselves and therefore worship it, Witches believe that everything, even deity, has the same level of equality and they tend to not worship anything, but respect it instead. Another shared belief is that all knowledge within a tradition is kept secret. This is why Witches do not keep a “Book of Shadows” or anything of the sort. Wiccans are very much the opposite–you can find their spells all over the Internet. Witches also do not believe in an “initiation” as viewed by Wiccans, although they do have a sort of a dedication to the tradition, deities, or other such things (depending on one’s specific tradition).
