In singles play the court may be just 17 feet wide, but remains 44 feet long. You can simply play with different markings to achieve this smaller court. To do this, use a boundary line 1 ½ feet in from the boundary lines. Badminton courts are divided into halves by a net that is 5-feet, 1 inch tall at the edges and an even 5-feet tall in the center. This net creates a 20 feet wide and 22 feet long playing space for each player. The net should extend to the doubles boundary lines, even when a singles game is being played.
