This is a transcription of a piece of paper created by DC/IL in 1977 but apparently describing guidelines dating from 1965. They were agreed in the 1990’s to apply to CS+AC and CS+MT students. (They do not apply to CSwBM or ABIS students.) At the same time, the last line in the table below was added, relating to the award of a Pass degree. It may be that, as the rules for the award of a Pass degree have changed, we need to review this. For example, a student who obtained 65% in CS and 72% in MT, and thus an overall mark of 68.5%, would normally be awarded a 1st class degree, even though for single honours students we would expect a final average of 70%. This is because the overall average is 67% or more, at least one Final Subject (MT) is 70% or more, and the other Final Subject (CS) is 60% or more.
