What are the awards that the local TV stations promote?
You’ll see two major categories mentioned a lot by area television (and some radio) stations. First are the RTNDAC Awards from the Radio-Television News Directors Association of the Carolinas, a voluntary group made up of broadcasting professionals and some college faculty members. The RTNDAC generally presents its awards in the fall at its annual convention. (The 2009 convention will be Oct. 10 in Charlotte.) Awards are presented in separate categories for radio, television and student broadcasts, generally nominated by the local station managers or news directors. Entries are judged by broadcast professionals, normally from another state. Dozens of awards are handed out in such categories as Best Newscast, Sports, Photography, Investigative Reporting and Weathercast, as well as individual achievement awards for sportscasters, weather reporters and the like. In addition, the TV award categories are subdivided into Division I and Division II. Division I is composed of large-market stat
