What are the audition requirements?
Requirements for a live or tape audition are three standard Jazz selections performed with a rhythm section. The selections should comprise one up-tempo tune, one ballad, and one blues. The applicant should demonstrate his/her improvisational abilities on each selection. Note pre-screening requirements for drum, guitar, and voice applicants. Please see the Auditions section of this website for details regarding audition requirements. In addition to the in-person performance audition, all areas of musicianship are evaluated. Placement exams and interviews in ear training, sight-singing, dictation, keyboard skills, theory, and analysis are given so that we can assess what coursework an applicant will require to complete the rigorous program at Mannes.
