The United States Army Reserves are a key piece to the military. The goal is to transform ordinary citizens into fully trained soldiers ready to meet the nation’s needs at home and throughout the world.ReservesIn the most basic terms, the task of an Army Reserve soldier is to provide service through homeland duties and mobilized combat. The Reserves and the National Guard make up the reserve units that give support to the active duty military.Part-Time DutyWhen not mobilized, soldiers spend an allotted time throughout the year in training. This usually consists of one weekend per month with an additional two-week “active training” once a year.Career NetworkAlong with the training duties required, the Army Reserves can take many additional jobs available from the Army. These can range anywhere from administrative assignments to the medical field.Temporary Homeland OccupantsReserve soldiers occasionally occupy positions left vacant when soldiers on active duty go overseas.
