‘Application’ refers to the way you apply a computer – what you use it for. It would be impossible to list the applications of computers – they are present in watches, phones, communications, media, control systems – in fact anywhere that computation can be of benefit. My computer applications include ISO image manipulation, archiving pictures, music, movies. It works as a dictionary, translator, clock, organiser, alarm, printer, communications device, it plays games and entertains me, it edits, organises, and displays my pictures. It functions as an office – enabling me to make presentations, documents, plans. It helps to educate me, providing a very valuable information service. My computer can do virtually anything that I can tell it to do – if it can’t, then I could devise some kind of hardware interface to give my computer the ability to do this – if I knew how, I could teach it to drive my car.
