What are the anthropometrics and ergonomics of an ordinary house lamp?
Firstly, you need to define whether this is a desk lamp or a floor standing lamp. Either way it needs to be usable by all those in the house, except perhaps by small children. Therefore, you need to consider the height of the light, shade and switch. If it is floor standing – is it an ‘uplighter’? You will need to make sure that the light source is of a height that doesn’t dazzle and that the shade is adequate. Bulbs will get very hot and should be out of reach of small fingers. The base of the lamp should be stable and not cause the lamp to fall over easily. The shade should be of such a material or size and far enough away from the bulb so that it is not affected by the heat from the bulb. Does the shade allow good access to the bulb when it needs to be changed?
