What are the annual running costs of a holiday house in the Canary Islands ?
My friend has a holiday house on the Costa Brava and he said it costs him 2500 Euro a year before he switches on a light bulb. He pays a standing charge for water and electricity every 2 months, also an annual fee for cable TV and community management fees. The upkeep of the communal street lighting and swimming pool is 200 Euro per annum. Then there is an equivalent Co. Council tax ( Murcia ) for the bin collections etc. and a Federal property tax. He had to open a local bank account where all these charges are taken out by direct debit. He retains a local solicitor to look after his affairs which is another annual fee. In summary, it’s not cheap.
