What Are the Alternatives?
Policy makers and pundits often try to make it seem that top-down, corporate globalization is a naturally occurring phenomenon. Nothing could be farther from the truth. In fact, the current economic processes known as “globalization” have been defined and driven by a very small number of people. United, citizens around the world can create a kind of grassroots globalization a people’s globalization that puts economic, social and political justice at the center of trade and investment. Citizens groups from across the Western Hemisphere have written an “Alternative Agreement for the Americas” that offers a picture of what socially responsible and environmentally sustainable commerce would look like. You can find the documenthereon the Global Exchange website.
In some cases, depending on individual factors such as the symptoms present and the condition being investigated, there may be alternatives to having a gastroscopy. These may include: • a barium meal – this X-ray based test tends to provide less information than a gastroscopy, • a CT scan, • an MRI scan, • ultrasound.
Building a clean energy economy is not rocket science. Workable alternatives to the carbon economy exist, but Ford has recklessly refused to take advantage of them. If Ford were to put off-the-shelf technologies into its vehicles today, it could increase average fuel efficiency to 40 mpg. If Ford converted its entire fleet of new vehicles to gasoline-electric hybrid vehicles, it could give consumers 60 mpg. Hydrogen fuels offer to completely eliminate tailpipe emissions. Electric vehicles, powered by clean wind and solar energy, can get you to and from work and school without using any fossil fuels at all. Biodiesel cars and trucks are another way to drive without being dependent on oil. Improved mass transit is another option, as are bicyling and walking. The U.S. government wastes $20 billion a year subsidizing fossil fuels. If that money were invested in clean energy, Ford would have new incentives to kick the petroleum habit.
Other imaging modalities such as MR or arthrography, may provide similar types of information or complimentary information. An MR examination does not permit aspiration or injection into the involved area. An arthrogram requires use of ionizing radiation and is more invasive. When ultrasound is appropriate, it has the advantage of being readily available, comfortable for most people and less expensive than other types of imaging that may provide comparable information.
