What are the aims of the EarlyBird Plus programme?
EarlyBird Plus trains parents and professional together, the aim being that a child will be given consistent support. The programme works to build both parents’ and professionals’ confidence and encourage them to problem solve together. Who can participate? Applications are accepted from parents of children between the ages of four and eight with a diagnosis of an autism spectrum disorder. We work with between three and five teams (parents and a local professional) at a time. Two places are allocated to each family with a third available for their local professional. The programme is currently only available in some areas of the country. In June 2008 there were 105 licensed teams, with over 450 individual licensed users who have run the programme with 1,580 local families and 1,110 accompanying professionals.
