What are the affects of secondhand smoke on pregnant women and babies?
Being exposed to secondhand smoke causes early death and disease in children and adults who do not smoke. Pregnant women who are exposed to secondhand smoke have 20% higher odds of giving birth to a low-birth weight baby than women who are not exposed to secondhand smoke during pregnancy. Babies who are exposed to secondhand smoke are more likely to die of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) than infants who are not exposed.
