What are the advantages or disadvantages of regular cameras over digital cameras?
Digital may come with free picture taking, but the claim that there are no developing and printing costs, and it being an environmentally friendly solution can be at least argued somewhat. The problem with digital is that all the images are virtual. You’ll eventually want them printed. Printed at a digital development center, your price for digital images is the same as film, or you’re doing them at home with an inkjet, with very costly inks and papers (compared to film equivalent). Sure you’re printing just the ones you like, but in order to assess the digital and film benefits, you need to look at the needs of the photographer too. A professional black and white film photographer who considers switching…well, the cost of digital is just as high… they don’t shoot alot of wasted frames, and when they develop their roll, they print just the images they want. It comes out to the same thing.
