What are the advantages of ring based Ethernet topology, pioneered by Reliance?
Traditional Ethernet networks are implemented using point-to-point topology. Such networks are prone to frequent outages due to fiber cut. In a country like India, where the basic road infrastructure is being expanded at rapid pace and ‘dial before dig’ practices do not exist, fiber cuts happen quite frequently, making the services unreliable. Hence, RCOM decided to have ring based Ethernet network. This ring based topology brings inherent redundancy at very little incremental cost as compared to legacy TDM technology. Moreover, Ethernet network can be enhanced to mesh network at lower incremental cost, further strengthening network robustness. What are the changes will the telecom industry experience with the evolution of Ethernet? With the evolution of Ethernet, the telecom industry is well placed to serve the ever increasing need for unified networking of customers in all segments. The following opportunities in Ethernet are driving telecom operators towards the business of Ethernet
