What are the advantages of PlantBottle packaging?
Currently, PlantBottle packaging consists of PET plastic that is made with up to 30 percent of its material derived from sugar cane juice and/or molasses, which is a by-product of producing sugar. As a result, it can help reduce our dependence on nonrenewable resources. In addition, our preliminary research indicates that from the growing of the plant materials through to the production of the resin, the carbon footprint of PlantBottle packaging is better than traditional PET.* And because it is PET, PlantBottle packaging can be recycled along with other PET plastic bottles. Our vision is to eventually bring to market plastic bottles that are made with 100 percent renewable raw materials and are still fully recyclable, just as existing PET bottles are. We also are working with partners to advance technologies to allow us to use other plant materials for future generations of PlantBottle packaging.
