What are the advantages of downdraft gasifiers?
The first advantage is that the gas is exceptionally clean and can readily be utilized in internal combustion engines simultaneously producing electricity and heat (combined heat and power CHP system). Unlike other gasifiers most of the tars typically produced during gasification are converted within the gasifier itself substantially reducing engine malfunctuions and increasing engine performance. The second advantage is that the system operates at low to negative pressure so there are no requirements for a stationary engineer which can be a very costly on a 24/7 basis, particularly in remote settings.
