What are the advantages of CAT (Computer Adaptive Testing)?
Through the use of CAT technology, the delivery of STAMP test items is unique for each student tested. Mid-level questions are initially delivered with randomly ordered answer sets. As the student correctly or incorrectly answers the questions, the computer generates higher or lower level test items, establishing the appropriate level suited to each student’s capacity. Additional test items are presented to the student covering topics at higher levels to probe for areas of strengths and weaknesses. The results generated not only establish the benchmark level that the student has achieved, but also indicate additional strengths that the student possesses and topics with which the student has difficulty. Since STAMP does not overly burden students with test items that exceed or do not meet their demonstrated achievement level, the testing experience is less frustrating to them.
