What are the advantages of an international adoption?
I really have to be candid with you, none that I see. I think there is much more risk inherent in an international adoption. I personally feel that children all over the world deserve the warmth of loving parents. But I feel that prospective parents who adopt internationally are assuming tremendous health and genetic risks because there is no access to vital information like there is in a domestic adoption. Today, with the advancements of medicine, I think that it is extremely important to have as much information as possible, not only for ourselves but for future generations and for the adopted child himself/herself. Also, generally, in a domestic adoption, the child is placed at birth. This is not so feasible with an international process.
