What are the advantages of a USB stereo headset over a conventional audio out one?

Based on many reviews I’ve seen, and the conversation that I linked to for a source, analog (normal input) headsets are preferred for sound quality, and USB headsets are better for gaming because the microphone carries voice better than analog. There were a couple of exceptions though. Some people with on board sound as opposed to a sound card stated that the USB headphones were a step up from their built in sound. In any case, the old phrase “You get what you pay for”, seemed to hold true for headsets whether they were USB or analog. My best advice, would be to check if any friends or co-workers have models similar to what you’re looking for and take a “test hearing”. There is no major difference between the audio plug headset or the USB headsets in terms of sound, but there is a difference in the way that the two headsets transmit data. the audio plug draws power from the computer, and converts your voice into electrical signal only, and sends it into the sound card where it can be processed as data. As for a USB plug, it directly converts electrical signals into data so that it can be sent to the computer via USB. Usually, the USB has better clarity, but depends on your purchase. Usually the best-known brands have the best quality, instead of the generic ones Sources: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Aiec2FcgOVSV5CfX86igedMjzKIX;_ylv=3?

I personally prefer the USB system because it’s awesomely simple to use in that when you plug it in, the audio in/recording and audio out devices are automatically switched to the headphones. That’s the main big advantage of USB devices, and it’s a good one. Since I use a laptop, it happens frequently that I unplug and plug the headphones back in, so that’s a definite plus, and therefore pretty much a requirement. It is indeed hard to find them, and hard to find reviews of them. That’s sad, and sucks. Usually, all tech-gear is pretty well covered, but in this particular case, it’s amazingly poorly covered. It’s true that there isn’t a huge market for them just yet, but it has to be growing. Tech companies today simply can’t ignore the massive gaming market, and I suppose USB headests fall into the category gaming, primarily. http://www.thetechlounge.com/forum/showthread.php?t=3060 for a usb headset th
