What are the advantages/disadvantages of a salt water pool?
The main disadvantage of a salt water pool is the initial cost (approx. $1,400). A salt water chlorination system is an additional piece of equipment that is added to the rest of the equipment that your pool requires. It is not an entirely different type of pool equipment, as many people have heard. The advantages of a salt water chlorination system are simplicity of use, no storage of dangerous chemicals, and more enjoyable water to swim in. You can monitor and change the amount of chlorine that the system is producing without the use of “test kits” by simply changing the chlorine production rate on the salt system control pad. You can buy pool salt at a pool supply store or at most home improvement stores. A salt water pool feels like swimming in soft water. Most people notice very little chlorine smell if any, don’t have eye discomfort, and don’t feel the need to shower after taking a swim.
