What are the advantages and disadvantages of such diversity?
I like doing different things at different times. Doing clinical research, to systematic reviews, to bouncing research ideas around is always exciting. Changing topics has advantages in that you come to it fresh, learning and retaining more; however, people may sometimes view you as a dilettante who can’t stick to one area. My own view is that we should all do what interests us, and all academic activity must lead to improvements in services.
