What are the advantages and disadvantages of forming a minority government? ?
A minority government is formed by a single party or a coalition that has not a majority in the parliament; among the advantages the possibility of filling all your cabinet posts with trusted party members (as opposed to other people from other parties) and the ability to drive your own agenda regardless to the whims of other political parties. The major downside is of course the absence of a parliamentary majority, which means that for every new law an ad-hoc coalition with other parties has to be sought; this means varying political constellations, which can be constructive (more parties than usual are included in the lawmaking process) but most likely it prevents major political changes. Furthermore, the minority government has to be at least tolerated by some other members of the parliament, because it could be voted out of existence all the time by a majority vote.
