What are the admissions requirements?
• B.A. or B.S. from an accredited institution of higher learning. • Satisfactory scores on the General Graduate Record Exam (GRE). Scores more than 10 years old are not valid. • A background in psychology is preferred. • Completion of the application, three academic or professional references, a personal statement of philosophy and purpose, and a resume or vita. What is your policy regarding transferring credits? Graduate credit from other accepted institutions can be transferred if the courses are related to the program you are pursuing. There is a limit of 10 semester hours of transfer work. To determine if courses you have taken can transfer, bring course descriptions and transcripts to your adviser and discuss the applicability of the transfer. After completing a brief application and providing the needed documentation (this includes the appearance of the candidate course on your transcript), the decision will be made by a subcommittee of faculty. SGS sets minimum admissions requirements as follows: Master’s programs – a four-year University of Toronto bachelor’s degree, or equivalent, with at least a mid B average in the final year of study Doctoral programs – a University of Toronto master’s degree, or equivalent, with at least a B+ average. Some departments will allow direct entry to a PhD program from a bachelor’s degree, for exceptional applicants. Such applicants require a four-year University of Toronto bachelor’s degree, or equivalent, with an average of at least A-. Many departments have higher minimum requirements than these. As we receive many more applications each year from excellent candidates than we have places available, meeting the minimum admissions requirement does not guarantee admission.
