What are the admissions criteria?
Applicants must have completed at least three years of college studies and must be majoring in a non-business field (e.g. engineering, liberal arts, sciences). Recent graduates and graduate students may attend the program as long as they are within two years of completing their undergraduate degree at the time of admission.
We employ a range of criteria for evaluating applicants for admission to the program. Our goal is to examine a range of indicators of student potential for academic success in the program, taking account of current faculty areas of expertise and interests. No individual criterion has superior weight on its own. We consider GPA, personal statement, letters of reference and sample of writing. We also look at individual statements of obstacles overcome on the path to academic success at the BA level. Finally, we ensure that there is a match between student areas, and faculty availability to advise and work with students. In other words, we seek to ensure that particular faculty members do not have too many demands on their time in such a way that student needs are not met. Since PC is a small private college, the admissions committee is able to employ a highly personalized admissions process. While we do not have stated criteria, admission is based upon a thorough review of your previous academic work, evidence of self-direction, the ability to think independently, and work collaboratively with others. Applicants should show the ways in which they feel that they will benefit from, contribute to, and be challenged by Prescott College’s unique approach to teaching and learning. We require: completed application; $25 application fee; 2 – 4 page essay; letter of recommendation; ACT/SAT scores (freshman only); high school transcripts; college transcripts.
For Home students, you must have already completed/be in the process of completing an undergraduate degree. Different colleges ask for different degree classifications – most of the undergraduate colleges specify a 1st class, whilst others have no information on their websites – but the minimum offer is likely to be at least a 2.i. You will have to organise two referees to provide references and you must also sit the LNAT (National Admissions Test for Law) before submitting your UCAS, the latter of which must be received by the 15th of October.
