What are the actual costs of building a home in the Lake Tahoe area?
The short answer is: it varies, and tends to cost more over time. For example, in June 2004, I completed a 3100 sq. ft. house at a cost of $135 per sq. ft. in actual building costs. In Aug. 2005, I estimated the cost of building a 2950 sq. ft. house at about $140 per sq. ft. but that project did not get started until the next season, and the finished product ended up costing $170 per foot. We completed a 2300 sq. ft. house 2007 season and it ended up at $182 a sq. ft. (1552 Atroari St. near the corner of Mandan and Pioneer Trail, drive by and take a look). We broke ground this May on a 2700 sq. ft. home in the Angora Burn area which was completed in 5 months, and came in at $184 per sq. ft. It would be fair to say the range for building a home in the Lake Tahoe area today is probably between $180 and $200 per sq. ft. using the ‘Schweitzer Built’ system. Some important cost factors are size, land features (e.g. flat vs. sloped) and type of finish work (‘Tahoe upscale’, or basic). It is
