What are the activities where WiMax Forum is focusing on?
We are planning to increase the number of WiMax access devices like PC accessories and drivers in the market. Since more manufacturers mean more devices, it leads to more competition and lowering of cost. How do you see WiMax performance with respect to other technologies based on multiple-input multiple-output communications (MIMO) and orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM)? Long term evolution (LTE) and WiMax are two technologies based on MIMO and OFDM technologies. In case of high speed packet access (HSPA), the cost is high. Also the number of devices is limited as there is one dominant manufacturer. Even the intellectual property right prices are high and also the progress is slow. Presently, WiMax supports speeds of 120 kmph but our plan is to support bullet train. What’s the cost of WiMax access device and what would be the per month cost for utilising WiMax services?
