What are the Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander flags?
The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander flags are official flags of Australia (proclaimed in the Flags Act 19537, section 5, 1995). All local government Councils are encouraged to fly these flags as a symbol of respect toward the traditional owners and custodians of the land. All northern Sydney Councils fly the Aboriginal flag during Reconciliation Week (May) and NAIDOC Week (June), while Warringah and North Sydney Councils fly it on a daily basis.
