What are the 10 most common Spanish pronunciation mistakes?
In my experience they are, in order: • Making diphthongs (two different vowel sounds) out of single pure vowel sounds. For instance, pronouncing the “i” in “el director” as “a-ee” instead of “ee”. • Pronouncing the silent letters, namely: “h” and the “u” in “qui”, “que”, “gue” and “gui”. • Producing sounds that dont exist in Spanish, like the Engish “z”, “h”, “sh” and “v” sounds. • Dropping letters, especially the “e” at the end of words like “pasaporte” or “cliente”. • Mispronouncing cognates (words with similar or identical spelling in both languages): hotel, atencin, famoso, hospital, etc. • Stressing the wrong vowel. • Pronouncing the “g” and “j” like in English. • Using a flat intonation. • Not rolling the “rr”. • Forgetting that the “v” should sound like a “b”.
