What are teardrop shaped implants and how are they different round implants?
Teardrop shaped implants were made with the idea that a breast on a woman’s chest is shaped much like the shape of a tear drop. Despite the marketing efforts for teardrop shaped implants, they have not caught on as a widely used device. The major problem with teardrop shaped implants is that the teardrop may rotate inside the implant capsule and may assume an abnormal shape over time. A round implant is most commonly used for breast augmentation and breast reconstruction since the shape is symmetric in three dimensions. These implants will assume a natural shape regardless of rotation. Moreover, once inside a woman’s body, they will assume a “teardrop” shape, creating a natural shape.
