What Are Teacher Unions?
While there are many hundreds of teachers unions across the United States, this article will focus on the top two as a representative of the whole. The National Education Association (NEA) is the largest labor union in the United States, with 3.2 million members representing many of the country’s teachers along with other school personnel. (Wiki) It employs over 600 staff and has an annual operating budget of around $150 million. (Wiki) Although the NES was founded in 1857, it was not officially recognized as a union until the 1960’s.
