What are tcpwrappers, and how do I configure them?

Tcpwrappers, or tcpd, runs as an intermediary between inetd and the service that inetd calls. Tcpwrappers can be configured to filter, and/or log connections to each service. When a connection is made to a particular port, inetd passes the request to tcpd, which checks existing rules (/etc/hosts.all, /etc/hosts.deny) to see if the connection is allowed. If it is, it passes the request on to the appropriate client daemon. If the connection is disallowed, it is simply closed.
