What are tapeworms?
Tapeworms are parasites that can be found in the intestines. They have a long, flat body made up of segments. You may see the segments passed in your pet’s stool (they may appear to look like grains of rice). Even if the segments are passed in bowel movements, the head remains attached to intestinal wall where it will regenerate. You may not notice any signs of illness, or you may see poor appetite, upset stomach, weight loss, or poor hair coat or skin. Tapeworms are contracted most often from fleas and small rodents (wild mice, squirrels, rabbits) but can be contracted from direct contact and ingestion of infected bowel movements. If you detect signs of infestation in your pet’s stool or see segments on your pet’s fur, contact us immediately for deworming medication.
