What Are Symptoms of Rotavirus?
Rotavirus is a common viral infection causing gastroenteritis, affecting adults and children. More severe symptoms occur in children. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), rotavirus affects approximately 55,000 children per year in the United States and causes death in approximately 600,000 children per year worldwide. Rotavirus infection is most common between November and April, and transmission occurs through the fecal-oral route. Symptoms Fever is usually the first symptom of rotavirus infection, occurring after a two-day incubation period. The fever is followed by three to eight days of diarrhea, vomiting and abdominal pain. The symptoms are typically self-limiting and resolve within a few days, unless the individual has a compromised immune system.
