What are superstrings proposed to be?
Strings are the most fundamental and smallest constituent of all things. There are multitudes of layers of substructure in the microscopic world; strings are first in line. Brian illustrated this using a linguistic analogy describing that paragraphs are made up of sentences, sentences are made up of words, and words are made up of letters. Letters are the smallest constituent of written language and do not consist of any other substructure; they are simply letters. Likewise, a string is simply a string. It cannot be described as having any other substance. Strings are the fundamental building blocks of all things that spawn from them; like letters of the universal language. These letters (strings) manifest the initial impact of the first command of God concerning the created order, Let There Be Light! Brian has sadly concluded that if they should decide that strings have further substructure then strings will have become irrelevant. He is sadly mistaken. Superstrings throw off light as
