What are sugar alcohols?
Sugar Alcohol is not sugar or alcohol, it is a hydrogenated liquid starch derived and processed from corn. Examples of sugar alcohol in the food are xylitol, sorbitol, mannitol, maltitol, isomalt, lactitol, hydrogenated starch hydrosolates, hydrogenated glucose syrups, erythritol, or a combination of these. They are used as a texturizing agent, humectant, anticaking agent and as a sugar substitute for diabetics. The ingredient is perfectly safe for diabetics and others not able to consumer sugar. However, caution should be used to consume the daily recommended daily allowance only. Anything over that may have a laxative effect.
