What are stork marks?
Finding your baby is born with a red birthmark on her face can be a shock. But the chances are it will fade. You may not have heard of stork marks, but around one in 40 babies is born with these small, salmon-coloured blemishes. They can also appear soon after the birth and look more vivid when your baby cries. Stork marks, caused by the appearance of tiny blood vessels beneath the skin, are most frequently found on the forehead, eyelids and back of the neck. Sarah Hillery was shocked to see red marks extending down the centre of her baby daughter Lara’s face (pictured) at birth.
