What are Stepper Motors? Is it old technology?
Traditional cutters have utilized stepper (typically 800 steps per inch) or micro-stepper technology (higher resolution like 3,200 steps per inch) to drive the spindle assembly across the systems work area. As it sounds, each stepper motor will share the work in creating characters. Straight horizontal or vertical lines only require the work of a single motor. Diagonal or curved lines require that the stepper motors take turns in moving the spindle assembly through the path of the character. This creates a step (albeit a very small step) that creates the illusion of the diagonal line.
