What are step up and step down transformers???????????
Trans formers are used to step up or step down the voltage of an electrical system/ The television in your home gets supply from a wall plug. But the different parts in the T.V.needs different voltages. So a transformer is used to step down the voltage to different parts as required. In power generating stations, we generate say 11000volt, Now the power needed to be transmitted long distances, If we transmit the same voltage, it is not efficient.Also we need more thick copper wires.So we step up the voltage to 220,000volt or 440,000volt etc. This increases the efficiency,reduces the loss in transmission.
