What are standards for building and outfitting use and what is good practice ?

Standards or codes are either government mandatory requirements or advisory standards for construction, outfitting and operation. Government requirements regarding safety equipmant, navigation lights etc. must be complied with. Advisory standards such as AS1799 Small Boat code or the USA American Yacht and boating council guidelines (ABYC) should be followed as a matter of good practice. Having said this much of what goes into a steel and aluminium boat is good practice. The drawings reflect good practice .
