What are squatters rights (UK)?
Squatting – setting up house in unoccupied premises without the owners permission is not a crime unless violence is used or threatened in order to get in or if damage is caused. It is a trespass and the owner must get a court order for possession of the premises. The owner cannot use violence to enter the property or to evict the squatters. If a squatter is evicted the owner of the property has a legal responsibility to take car of any possessions that the squatter left behind until they can be collected.
