What are spermicides used for and should I use condoms or lubricant that have them added?
A. Spermicides are added to some condoms when they are made, to help lubricate them and they are sometimes added to lube too. It is best to avoid any product (condom or lube) that has an ingredient called nonoxynol-9 in it, as it can irritate the lining of the rectum, increasing the risk of STIs and HIV transmission.
