Okay you have several options these days. The first, simplest, and least secure is WEP. (Wired Equivalency Protocol.) If you are serious about securing your stuff, WEP isn’t going to cut it. Next up you have WPA (Wi-Fi Protected Access). This is the one you want, and your wireless router should have WPA available. This uses a pre-shared key, and progressive authorization. It is much more secure that WEP and just as easy to set up. The last thing you need to do if you are serious, is MAC address filtering. Each network card out there has a unique fingerprint. That fingerprint is a Media Access Control address. Most Wifi routers come with a MAC address filter. You can tell the router to only accept connections from certain computers. All of this configuration is done through a web interface. Your router will come with a web server built in to it, and with a default IP address.
